Lowville Elementary School has a fine reputation for being a school of excellence. As an educational community we take pride in our students and their accomplishments and are committed to continuing this tradition of providing an education of the highest quality. This mission is accomplished through the support of parents, and the hard work of students and a dedicated teaching staff.
Lowville Elementary offers many excellent programs for students of all abilities and interests. It is our goal to meet the needs of all students’ academically. This effort takes place through exceptional classroom instruction, enrichment programs, and for children who need additional support, academic intervention services, and special education services. LACS offers a Pre-Kindergarten program, summer school programs, after school homework support (Think Tank), Odyssey of the Mind, and a variety of opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities and sports. Through each of these efforts, our goal is first and foremost to provide opportunities for growth for our students.
Our students have performed at admirable levels on NYS Assessments. In the previous school year all students in grades 3-5 were tested in English Language Arts and Math. Students in grade 4 were tested in science and students in grade 5 were tested in Social Studies. Scores on the NYS tests were on a scale of 1-4. A score of 3 indicates the student is “meeting learning standards with distinction”.
English Language Arts results showed steady progress for each of the three grade levels. Seventy-two percent of all 3rd graders at Lowville Elementary scored at a level 3 or 4. Of the students in grade 4, seventy-three percent scored at level 3 or 4 and at grade 5, seventy-six percent scored at level 3 or 4.
In the area of mathematics, ninety-one percent of all 3rd graders scored at a level 3 or 4. Ninety-two percent of all 4th graders and eighty percent of all 5th graders scored at level 3 or 4.
All students in grade 5 took the NYS Social Studies test. Ninety percent of all 5th graders scored at a level 3 or 4 on that test, while ninety-six percent of LACS 4th graders scored a level 3 or 4 on the NYS Science test.
Congratulations to the teachers, staff, students and parents for this accomplishment. Through everyone’s hard work and dedication we continue to see outstanding results on the NYS assessments. As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am always happy to talk with concerned members of our community.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Steckly
