Lowville Middle School consists of grades 6-8 with approximately 318 students.  Students at Lowville Middle School follow a nine period schedule, starting at 8:32 a.m. and ending at 3:10 p.m.  Our staff is made up of approximately 40 faculty members including teachers, counselors, assistants and aides.

Lowville Middle School was established during the 2000-2001 school year as part of the Lowville Academy and Central School District.  Lowville Academy has had a long tradition of academic excellence, and Lowville Middle School exemplifies that same spirit of academic focus.  We also recognize that the middle school years are an important time in a child’s overall development.  They are discovering their interests and abilities, while learning to develop a sense of responsibility and accountability.  We have high expectations for our students, and work hard daily to provide a supportive environment where our students can find success.  It is important to us that we build partnerships with parents and community members in order to better ensure success for our students.  Our Statement of Beliefs outlines the expectations that all students need to follow at Lowville Middle School:

We believe that each person in our school deserves:

  • A safe and secure environment
  • To be treated with respect by others
  • The opportunity to be the best they can be

Therefore, we are committed to supporting school-wide expectations so that students will:

§  Show respect for all people and property

§  Demonstrate sincere effort and quality work

§  Direct only kind manners and courteous language toward others

§  Show responsible behavior in all instructional and non-instructional areas, including hallways, cafeterias, athletic fields, locker rooms and on buses

§  Attend school faithfully, and be on time for class

§  Never use, possess or be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or other tobacco products while involved in any school-related function

§  Be a positive team player in the classroom and at extracurricular events

As a staff, we focus every day to ensure that these expectations are being met.  Our students play an important role in contributing to the positive learning environment that we enjoy here at Lowville Middle School.  Our Middle School is focusing on the theme “Enter to Learn” for the 2008-2009 school year.  We borrowed this phrase from our district’s motto of “Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve.”  We want to encourage all of our students to always keep in mind that when they come in to school each day, they are “Entering to Learn.”  This is a gentle reminder to all students that the school setting is first and foremost an academic area where the priority is always on student learning.  We will continue to guide students through their middle school years to support them as they “Enter to Learn,” so that when they graduate they will be prepared to “Go Forth to Serve.”
