Children of the Holocaust

The Holocaust changed the way the world views varying cultures.  This unit will take us on a journey through the eyes of children.  We will travel to a historical period where some adults and children were viewed as different and inferior.  As a result, it brought a lot of saddness into the world.  We will explore what happens to a world where there is no tolerance for cultural differences.  Children from other cultures are more alike than we may think.  We all need food, shelter, family, and love.  This is an opportunity for us to develop an appreciation for different cultures and celebrate these differences.

Children of the Holocaust Ghetto Wall

Remembrance Day Memorial Project

An Artistic Expression of the Holocaust

This project is designed for you to express your understanding of the novel(s) that you read.  The Holocaust Remembrance Memorial Ghetto Wall will be a collage of the fine arts.  This includes visual art, writing, and music.  Read the criteria for each project below and pick a project that you like best.  Complete the project from the perspective of a character in your book—walk a mile in their shoes, so to speak.  For example, if you read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, you may want to do the project by pretending you are Annemarie, Ellen, or Peter.  If you are unsure of your goal once you pick a project, meet with me and I will help you get on the right track.  The purpose for Children of the Holocaust Ghetto Wall is to educate people about prejudice and hatred, so that history does not repeat itself.  Your project should reflect this theme.

We must hang onto our ideas of peace and harmony in the world—and the efforts of one person truly do matter. Therefore, the purpose for Children of the Holocaust Ghetto Wall is to educate people about prejudice and hatred, so that history does not repeat itself. Your project should reflect this theme.
