Poems are literary pieces that convey an ideal or feeling through carefully selected  words  and phrases. Poets use words carefully and wisely. We will explore all the tricks that poets use to take the most ordinary experiences or observations and turn them into extraordinary pieces of art using words. 

Poems have so many characteristics that make them unique.  Some poems have all of characteristics in the chart below, and some poems are dominant in one or more of the areas.

IMAGERY (use of senses to create pictures in your head)	MUSIC (rhythm, rhyme, sounds, and form)
