ABOUT US: Lowville Elementary Library serves over 650 students in grades K-6. The library is open from 8:20 to 3:15 for student usage. All students are encouraged, with the permission of their teachers, to visit the library for book browsing, material check-out, and research work. Kindergarten and first grade classes visit the library weekly for lessons, and other classes are flexibly scheduled throughout the day. Library lessons and research projects are a collaboration between classroom teachers and the school library media specialist. MISSION: Lowville Elementary School Library hopes to ensure that students become effective users of ideas and information by providing instruction in information-management skills and by providing physical access to materials. The school library functions as an integral part of the curriculum, fostering an appreciation of literature and life-long learning. LIBRARY POLICIES: Students in kindergarten are allowed one book. Students in grades one through four may borrow two books at a time and fifth graders are allowed three books. All books are generally due back in two weeks. PARENTS: Parents are both invited and encouraged to use the elementary school library. The media specialist is available to help suggest appropriate book titles, research materials, and to provide computer pointers as needed. Contact Mrs. Dykeman via telephone or e-mail to set-up a time for assistance. She'll be glad to help you !!
